The North Steps

View of Capitol and steps from frontThere are 42 granite steps leading to the north entry of the Legislative Building.  The steps symbolize that Washington was the 42nd state.  The stairs are the site of many gatherings, assemblies, and state ceremonies.  The granite was quarried in Index, Washington.

The Doors

To enter the Legislative Building, visitors pass through one of six cast bronze doors.  Each door weighs more than a ton and bears an image of early industry or scenic beauty of Washington State.  The bronze doors were designed by Maxfield Keck of New York.
