The Washington State Capitol grounds were landscaped by the
Olmsted Brothers with plantings that began in 1931. The grounds
feature 128 1/2 acres with 8 memorials, and a replica of one of the
fountains in the famous Tivoli Park in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Part of the original 1911 plan for the State Capitol has just
begun. The Plan, a contemporary interpretation of a parkway,
includes a terraced walkway, from the north side of the Temple of
Justice to the Capitol Lake Park, a landscaped promenade along the
lake, landscaping, park area and trees that open a view toward Puget
Sound.
