Public Works Project Data Collection Effort

The Capital Projects Advisory Review Board (CPARB) is required by the Legislature to gather major project data from public bodies whose projects are either approved by or become certified to use one or more alternative public works methods. For more information, see Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 39.10.320 and 39.10.350

Background

CPARB was tasked by the 2005 Legislature to evaluate and make recommendations to state policy makers on alternative public works and traditional contracting methods for construction projects. The Joint Legislative Advisory Review Committee (JLARC) further recommended that CPARB develop standardized project performance indicators and benchmarks for all major public works projects and for CPARB to collect project performance data on state and local projects.

Which projects will be surveyed?

In order to fulfill the legislative mandate, CPARB will be collecting major project data on all alternative public works projects and conventional public works projects which:

  • total over $5 million and
  • a design contract or design-build contract in place after June 2005

Data Collection Survey

All projects that meet the above criteria should start the data collection process by October 15, 2010.  An online survey will facilitate the data collection process.  There are two parts to the survey:

  • Part 1 - Planned project information should be entered near the beginning of the project.
  • Part 2 - Completed/actual project information to be entered at the completion of the project.

How to access the survey?

Public bodies should contact Danelle Bessett at danelle.bessett@dshs.wa.gov with the following information:

  • Agency
  • Project Name
  • Project Contact Name
  • Phone number
  • E-mail address

The project contact will receive an email message with a hyperlink to the survey and a password.

Note: If you provided project information during the 2006 CPARB Data Collection Pilot Survey, the information has been loaded into the database for you to update or complete with this survey.
