Dispatchers require more information
The GA Customer Service Center receives more calls about heating and cooling issues in campus buildings than any other subject. To respond quickly, our HVAC personnel need to know the variable air volume (VAV) number. You can find the VAV number on room thermostats or on ceiling vents. Please look for these numbers and provide them to Customer Service dispatchers when calling to report a heating or cooling problem.
Staffing changes bring new voices to Buildings & Grounds dispatch
If you frequently call GA’s Customer Service dispatch center, you probably have spoken with George “Les” Lester at some point. But Les, as he likes to be called, has moved. He now works in the information kiosk located in the General Administration Building lobby. In his new position, Les finds answers to all types of questions about GA business and campus activities. Les can be reached at the kiosk by calling 902-0990.
Trudy Donner, who has been working in the GA Parking Office, has now joined the dispatch center team. She is well versed on the Capitol Campus and eager to help you.
Gerald Gadberry recently joined GA’s Buildings & Grounds Program as the deputy assistant director. He comes to the agency from Eastern Washington University, where he worked for the past nine years as a construction project manager, overseeing and directing hundreds of design, construction and maintenance professionals. Gadberry can be reached at 902-0950 or by emailing him at Gerald.gadberry@ga.wa.gov
Coordinate outside plans with your Building Manager
If you are planning your agency picnic or any other outside gathering, you will want to coordinate the date and location with your building manager. Your building manager can help many ways, including:
- They can tell you if any fertilizers or pesticides have been recently applied to the area. If the area you want to use is scheduled for an application, they may be able to get it delayed until after the event.
- They can make sure the area is mowed prior to the event.
- They will be aware of conflicting events and help you schedule around them.
Recent staff and budget reductions at GA have made it necessary for our grounds staff to adjust their level of service. For example, we must charge you now on a reimbursable basis for moving picnic tables.
Bike Cage Program moves to Parking Office
The 2009 Legislature moved the state agency Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Program from GA to the state Department of Transportation. The Bike Cage Program, which was managed by the state agency CTR Program, is being managed now by the GA Parking Office. The Web site for requesting access to the bike cages is still www.ga.wa.gov/ctr/bike.htm. Call 725-0000 to report any problems with the Bike Cages.
Campus Parking Lots get makeover
Buildings & Grounds painters are taking advantage of the dry summer weather to repaint and restripe campus parking lots. Several lots have already been completed, including the Flag Circle and GA parking lots. Communications have been sent to parkers as these projects are moving along. If you are unsure if your lot is about to be painted and want to know, you can call Deanna Price at 725-0034 or email her at dprice@ga.wa.gov
Restickering of Campus Garages continues
If you currently park either in the General Administration or the Columbia Street garages, you must re-register your vehicles with the GA Parking Office before September 1, 2009.
General Administration is requiring the re-registration in an effort to improve parking enforcement and to update agency records.
To make it as easy as possible, General Administration offers you several ways to re-register your vehicles:
- In person at GA Building lobby: Staff from the GA Parking Office will be in the GA Building lobby from 8 to 10 a.m. August 18 – 20 and on August 25 – 27 to re-register employees.
- At GA Parking Office: You can also re-register by stopping by the General Administration Parking Office, located at the service level of Office Building 2. We are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. To get to the parking office, go through the door just below the walkway between the Natural Resources Building to Office Building 2 and take the stairway down to the General Administration parking office.
- Online: You may also log on to our web page and
follow a few simple steps:
- Select “Update existing parking information.”
- Make any necessary changes to update your parking record, or add a note in the comments box that your record is up to date – just need new stickers.
The site is at: https://fortress.wa.gov/ga/apps/Parkers/MainMenu.aspx
Once you re-register, General Administration will issue new parking stickers for your vehicles. Please remove your old burgundy stickers and replace them with the new ones.
If you do not re-register your vehicle by September 1, 2009 you could be given a parking citation.
For more information, call the GA parking office at (360) 725-0030.
