Use caution when exiting campus garages

An increase in complaints from pedestrians leaving the DOT and Plaza garages prompts a reminder about using caution when exiting the garages on 14th Avenue. We have received reports of several near-misses in this area. If you witness someone driving dangerously in the campus garages or when exiting, try to get the license plate number and report it to the Parking Office at 725-0030. The Parking Office will get in touch with the State Patrol, which provides security in the garages.

Vehicle limitations on top of the GA Garage set for safety reasons

Structural weaknesses have resulted in weight limitations for vehicles parking on top of the GA Garage. Vehicles weighing over 4,000 pounds are restricted from parking on top of the garage because of safety concerns. Heavy vehicles damage the support system for the garage. Owners of oversized vehicles, such as SUVs, vans and pick-ups, are urged to make use of a metered parking area on the west side of the GA Building. Owners of oversized vehicles parked on top of the GA garage are subject to tickets of up to $140.

Thurston County now offers electronic mitigation hearings for tickets

Tickets for Capitol Campus parking violations are issued by the Washington State Patrol and cannot be voided by GA's Parking Services. If you believe you received a ticket in error, you may contest it by following the instructions on the back of the ticket.

You may also request a contested hearing by mail. For more information, please see Contested Hearings by Mail on the Thurston County District Court Web site.

Search and Rescue group disbands

The Search and Rescue group previously established by GA’s Buildings and Grounds has disbanded. Building and Grounds thanks our agency partners for the support provided to the group in the past.

Use safe practices with your card key

Card keys have become a valuable tool for ensuring security in our workplace. Here are some tips for maximum security:

  • Make sure the picture on your card key is you. If your card key photo is outdated, order a new one with an updated photo.
  • When opening doors with your card key, make sure the door closes behind you.
  • Do not allow people to “piggyback” behind you when you open a door with your card key. By doing so, you compromise the reporting feature of the system.
  • If you lose your card key, report it right away to 725-7186.
